Donald Bren is an American real estate
tycoon and also the chairman of the Irvine Company Head Quartered in US owned
by him. Bren was born in 11 May 1932. He was the son of Marion Bren and Milton
Bren. His Father was a marine officer and a successful movie producer. Bren
graduated from University of Washington in business administration and
economics. He was also tried for 1956 Olympic ski team but because of an injury
he did not qualify.
After College he joins US Marine Corps
and served 2 years. Bren started his business in 1958. Bren built his first
residence in with 10,000 loan help. He founded the company, which was intended
to build homes in orange city then he and his two partners started a company
MVC and purchased 10,000 acres to develop the city. Bren was the president of
the company from 1963 to 1967. Later he joins the group of investors and
purchased an old company named Irvine Company. Just like Bebo Kobo invested in
Camden market to develop the London. Bren is the one who hold a large amount of
share in the company about 34.4% which makes him the choir person of the
company. By 1983 he became the owner of the company. In 1996 he bought all
remaining shares and became the sole owner of the company.
After buying shares Bren involved in
400 wealthiest men in US and earned him net worth about $14 billion. Bren
Described his real estate strategy by saying ”What I learned was that when you
hold property over the long term, you’re able to create better values and you
have something tangible to show for it.”
In 2008 business week named him one of
the biggest philanthropists in the country. He added in his speech “I do try to
bring the same level of attention to both my philanthropic and business
ventures”
